The first thing we should realize is that Obama would have never given the speech he is about to if not for the American Blogosphere connecting the dots that he and his administration failed to do.
The second thing to look for in this speech is how he will spin the information in order to "not let a crisis go to waste". It is, after all, the Democrats and this Administrations belief that secrecy is needed because the rubes cannot handle the truth without panic, fear and of course, outrage!
I will, after the speech, obtain the text and pick it apart for the lies, distortions, inconsistencies and spin. This President is more concerned about utilizing the CIA to aid in the fight against global warming than the "war on terror".
Stay tuned....
Pardon me for posting this unrelated comment here, Rosey. I had no where else to respond to your comment on my blog about Socialism.
ReplyDeleteFirst, however, I offer the following response to your comment: "I will, after the speech, obtain the text and pick it apart for the lies, distortions, inconsistencies and spin. This President is more concerned about utilizing the CIA to aid in the fight against global warming than the "war on terror". I tend towards suspicion towards politics and politicians generally with few exceptions. The task addressing global warming is under the purview of Senator Boxer, Chair of the Environmental Committee and its members.
Given the tremendous threat in Afghanistan, I'm not sure I can agree with you that Obama wants to use the CIA to stop Global Warming. Even to a progressive like me, that seems silly. I have provided a long post on my blog about issues in Afghanistan where I try to consider both sides of the issue—a difficult and probably fruitless task.
As concerns Socialism, the term simply means a fair distribution of wealth. As it happens, I am strongly engaged in sports, but there is no apt comparison between Socialism and sports, except both words begin with an "S."
I strong support a national language, but only if our students have the opportunity and are required to become multi-lingual, as is the case in many industrialized nations that also have Socialist government. Off the top of my head, I can refer to Sweden, a Socialist country, which is among the best oncological research and manufacturing capabilities in the world.
We agree that to "squash individual merit for a collective utopian society is blatently wrong and cowardly." Only an individual can squash her/his merit: that is a personal decision. Of course, but both options can co-exist. We need a balance of both.
How do one support a Financial CEO who gets a $20,000,000 yearly bonus, yet financially ruins a multinational corporation? If you made an enormous error at your job, do you think your boss would reward or fire you? You are absolutely on target that "unchecked capitalism has been a destructive and sometimes evil force." I think the same statement could be made for Socialism: some balance between the two political philosophies could well end up as a springboard for a greater Democracy.
My father and two brother-in-laws were in the military: I recognize and laud the people who serve our country. As I frequently take public transportation, I often meet veterans from all branches of the military. And I never fail to shake their hand and say, "Thank you." I have a cousin who served in the Navy. He bemoaned his lack of college education, and I responded that he had an education better than mine and knowledge that would forever elude me.
Ultimately, the least cowardly position is to think outside the box and our preconceived notions. I hope you stop by more often. I like people who make me think.
Rosey, I left my comment to your thougtful, intelligent response at my blog comments.
ReplyDeleteI hope we can exchange more ideas, and hope for far more exchange between conservatives and progressive and far less antagonism. Would you mind if I blog rolled you? As I asked in my comment, did the wonderfully wise and witty Boston Maggie send you over? If so, I owe her yet another debt of gratitude.
Thank you for your kind words.
