Divulging State Secrets!

What the NY Times accomplished by doing so.

I just read an explosive article over at Powerline that has connected some very serious dots and found that I had to share their thoughts and conclusions with you.

Remember back in 2005, just 4 years after 9/11 when the NY Times ran the story that divulged the NSA and their secret terrorist “eavesdropping” program. Then in 2006 the same paper ran another story about the secret “SWIFT” program that divulged, again, our proactive terror money trail tracking through banks. In both instances the NY Times deemed it necessary to give a “leg up” and a “heads up” to terror networks around the world that resulted in changing their tactics by learning what we were doing in secret. The divulging of “State Secrets” set our efforts back considerably and the results can now be seen with the recent “Times Square Bombing Attempt”.

How so, you ask?

First, let’s refresh your memory in the contents of the first article titled – Bush Lets U.S. Spy on Callers Without Courts

Months after the Sept. 11 attacks, President Bush secretly authorized the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on Americans and others inside the United States to search for evidence of terrorist activity without the court-approved warrants ordinarily required for domestic spying, according to government officials.

Under a presidential order signed in 2002, the intelligence agency has monitored the international telephone calls and international e-mail messages of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people inside the United States without warrants over the past three years in an effort to track possible "dirty numbers" linked to Al Qaeda, the officials said. The agency, they said, still seeks warrants to monitor entirely domestic communications.”

While the MSM has fervently and methodically paints this naturalized citizen in “terms of endearment” while failing to mention the fact he is a Muslim we have learned one fact early on – His use of a disposable cell phone.

Second, lets also refresh your memory in the contents of the second NY Times article titled – Bank Data is Sifted by U.S. in Secret to Block Terror

Under a secret Bush administration program initiated weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, counterterrorism officials have gained access to financial records from a vast international database and examined banking transactions involving thousands of Americans and others in the United States, according to government and industry officials.

The program is limited, government officials say, to tracing transactions of people suspected of having ties to Al Qaeda by reviewing records from the nerve center of the global banking industry, a Belgian cooperative that routes about $6 trillion daily between banks, brokerages, stock exchanges and other institutions. The records mostly involve wire transfers and other methods of moving money overseas and into and out of the United States. Most routine financial transactions confined to this country are not in the database.

Viewed by the Bush administration as a vital tool, the program has played a hidden role in domestic and foreign terrorism investigations since 2001 and helped in the capture of the most wanted Qaeda figure in Southeast Asia, the officials said.”

Again, while the MSM has told us that the terrorist arrested in this case had his home foreclosed on and that he led a “Spartan existence” in their attempt to humanize this thug, we learned another tidbit of information that the Federal authorities are now searching for a “money courier” in connection to the incident.

The AP story highlights that the man arrested in the failed attempt received money from another man who was acting as a terror mule bypassing banking systems.

According to the AP story – “Investigators of the failed car bombing in Times Square are looking for a money courier they say helped funnel cash from overseas to finance a Pakistani-American's preparations to blow up the crude gasoline-and-propane bomb in the heart of New York, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

Investigators have the name of the courier they believe helped Faisal Shahzad pay for the used SUV and other materials to rig up a car bomb that would have caused a huge fireball in Times Square if it had gone off, the official told the AP. The official didn't know how much money may have changed hands.”

According to Politico, "the FBI was able to track down the buyer of the SUV through a cell phone number “The vehicle identification number had been removed from the bomb-laden 1993 Nissan Pathfinder left in Times Square. But investigators were able to lift it from a second location on the vehicle, and used that to track down a Connecticut man who said he had sold the Pathfinder for cash about three weeks ago.

The man had offered the vehicle on Craigslist, and FBI agents were able to recover the number from a disposable cell phone that had been used by the buyer.

The suspect didn't still have the phone. But using a lot of technology and access to database, agents located the suspect.”

You can see how the program worked in tracking down this terrorist. The law enforcement agencies can be proud of their work but the fact he used a disposable phone in his planning almost allowed him to escape the country by minutes because he boarded a plane that was readying for take off before being sent back to the terminal. The suspect managed to gain a seat after going through the myriad of security measures including a “no-fly list” snafu.

The NY Times is a serious security concern of the United States and should be investigated for “high crimes against the State”. Their reckless actions have enabled our enemies to glimpse into the arsenal of defenses used to apprehend them and save American lives. They have American blood on their hands.

  1. The 'Gray Lady' is very irresponsible. The NYT publishes these sorts of things that are harmful to the national interest and fail to report any of the misconduct within the Executive Office of the President and his cronies.

It's the classic liberal media at work. And it's why I don't subscribe to the times or watch MSNBC/ABC/CBS anymore. I get my news from other sources that I deem reliable.
