In the U.S. House, Congressman Bachus reflects the views of the people of the Sixth District. He is a conservative who supports tax relief, fiscal responsibility, a strong national defense and traditional values. He has been named Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business, Friend of the Taxpayer by Americans for Tax Reform, Friend of the Family by the Christian Coalition and has received the Spirit of Free Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Congressman Bachus holds the leadership position of Ranking Member on the House Financial Services Committee. He leads the 29 Republicans on the committee, which deals with issues of everyday concern to Alabamians such as investor protection, the soundness of the banking system, financial regulation, and making sure businesses have access to the capital they need to expand and create jobs.
Bachus created a controversy recently, when he stated that there are 17 socialists currently serving in the House of Representatives, but then found himself strangely unable to name them.

Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) Tuesday called for an end to federal funding for ACORN, a leftwing activist group linked to voter registration fraud and other criminal activity.
Bachus became an original cosponsor of the Defund ACORN Act, which would eliminate all ties, including financial support, between the government and the organization. He also signed a letter to President Obama demanding a termination of taxpayer assistance to the group.
Congressman Bachus said, “Taxpayer funding for ACORN’s far left agenda must end now. It is unconscionable to use the hard-earned money of the American taxpayer to support a radical organization that has repeatedly been embroiled in scandal and shady activity. This is an outrageous use of public money and the ties must be cut off immediately and permanently.”
