Why Rush Limbaugh is wrong.


Lately, on the Rush Limbaugh show (as well as other so-called conservative talk radio shows) there has been an attempt to dissuade “tea party” growth due to the danger that voting for any tea party candidates would hand Democrats another victory in 2010.

I say hogwash! The GOP is worried and rightly so. They are trying to convince us that “third parties” are spoilers at best.

In a recent Rasmussen generic poll comparing Democrat, Republican and Tea Party support it shows that the GOP has lost its dominance in power to the Tea Party movement. In response they are pushing the “third party” myth to scare voters into coming back to their ranks as the only viable means to defeat socialism.

Americans are sick and tired of Democrats and Republicans and this poll show this trend. The GOP is so much like the Democrats in political philosophy that these Americans are paying such close attention to individuals vs. political affiliation that both Democrats and Republicans are worried.

According to Rasmussen:

“Running under the Tea Party brand may be better in congressional races than being a Republican. In a three-way Generic Ballot test, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Democrats attracting 36% of the vote. The Tea Party candidate picks up 23%, and Republicans finish third at 18%. Another 22% are undecided.


Among voters not affiliated with either major party, the Tea Party comes out on top. Thirty-three percent (33%) prefer the Tea Party candidate, and 30% are undecided. Twenty-five percent (25%) would vote for a Democrat, and just 12% prefer the GOP.


Among Republican voters, 39% say they’d vote for the GOP candidate, but 33% favor the Tea Party option.”

Limbaugh needs to check his pulse and compare it to reality. The reality is the GOP (which has lost its dominance) needs to say that “if you vote for GOP Republicans then they will be the spoiler”.

The reality, again, is that if you add the paltry 18% of GOP support to the tea party candidates, then you stand at 41%. The 25% undecided voters are certainly untrustworthy of the Democrats as they are flocking away from Obama and Democrats since they elected him.

The hope and change he pledged, which drew the independents to his side, now see what they voted for and sent him adrift and the Democrats with him.

Again, according to Rasmussen:

"The standard Generic Congressional Ballot shows Republicans holding a modest lead over Democrats. It appears that the policies of the Obama administration and the Democratic Congress are currently enough to unite both those who prefer Republicans and those who prefer the Tea Party route.


Data from the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows that just 55% of conservatives nationwide consider themselves Republicans. Recent polling shows that 73% of Republican voters believe their leaders in Washington are out of touch with the party base.


Republican voters are paying a lot more attention to the Tea Party movement than anyone else. Forty-three percent (43%) of GOP voters are following news about the movement Very Closely. Another 30% are following it somewhat closely. Just 12% of Democrats are following stories about the Tea Party movement Very Closely.

Seventy percent (70%) of Republican voters have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party movement while only seven percent (7%) offer an unfavorable view. Interestingly, 49% of Democrats have no opinion one way or the other. Among unaffiliated voters, 43% have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party efforts while 20% say the opposite.


Forty-one percent (41%) of all voters nationwide say Republicans and Democrats are so much alike that a new party is needed to represent the American people. Republicans are evenly divided on this question, while Democrats overwhelmingly disagree. However, among those not affiliated with either major party, 60% agree that a new party is needed, and only 25% disagree. Men are far more likely than women to believe a new party is needed.

As for the voting preference, the Tea Party bests the GOP among both men and women and in all age groups except those over 65."

The Tea Party candidates are the first choice among political conservatives. Among moderates, the Tea Party candidates are more popular than Republicans. However, nearly half of all moderate voters prefer a Democrat.”

The thing that worries the GOP the most is that those who are Conservative (vs. Republican) are the top ideological group in the country.

Gallup:

“Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 20% as liberal.”

When you combine the “Conservative and Moderate” the picture is bleak for the GOP. Even if disregard the “Moderate” from “Conservative” you have the same %age of disparities with the Rasmussen polls.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Rush and believe that he is right on most issues that occur in the political spectrum but highly disagree with him on this front.

Regardless of his beliefs, I believe that Americans will go to the 2010 elections armed with their determination to vote for the “Doug Hoffmans” that represent the “people” most aligned with “Conservative vs. Republican” values. Hoffman would have won, if not for the disgusting antics and misguided support for the Socialist Scarafazza disguised in “Republican” clothing.

When this article went to press and posted another poll came out that proved this point with new findings.  The Tea Party philosophy has now eclipsed both the Democrat and Repubican parties.  In addition, so has the Independents.  You can read about it best, here:
